Heino Folmer - International Medical Doctor
With a deep passion for his profession and a strong commitment to his patients, Doctor Heino Folmer has been a general practitioner for over 30 years, serving the community of Albufeira since 2005. He provides personalized care to residents and tourists alike, being available 24 hours a day.
His journey began with a year of dentistry before he decided to pursue Medicine at the University of Nijmegen, where he obtained his degree in 1991. After completing his mandatory military service in 1992, he joined the Ministry of Defense to increase his chances of securing a coveted training position as a surgeon. However, during his mission in Srebrenica with Dutchbat 3 and his collaboration with Médecins Sans Frontières, he realized that his true calling lay in primary care medicine. He valued the opportunity to establish personal relationships with patients and address their health concerns within their social context. This revelation led him to specialize in general medicine at Leiden University, supported by the Ministry of Defense.
Since 2005, Heino has devoted himself to the practice of medicine as a general practitioner in Albufeira. His dedication and work were highlighted in the Avro TV program "De Vakantiedokter," where he was followed by a camera crew for two seasons. This program was successfully broadcast during primetime on Dutch national television from 2009 to 2011.
